Thanks for visiting me for another Color Play Friday hosted by Lorinda from Laurel Poppy and Pine and Trina from In An Otter Life. The photo for this week is a thing of beauty! You see, I’m a gear-head chick. If I could have any car, regardless of the cost, it wouldn’t be some little, fast, foreign thing. Nope, not me! I’d have to admit, I’d be torn between a ’69 Chevelle SS or a ’71 RoadRunner. *insert big cheesy grin here* Once upon a time I actually restored a few oldies including a ’67 Impala (that has less than 50k original miles!) and a ’76 Grand Prix that has a 400, 2 – 4 barrel carbs, and slicks when I bought it. It was set up for the race track when I bought it. Ok, I’ve digress enough. Let’s get back to the photo and fabric.
At first I was imanging something, like a tote or large purse, in the off white color I found on the engine (it’s the background color that the hexie’s are on) with a few rows of hexies in the other colors that I picked out of the picture with large, hand quilting details on the hexies using the same color as the background.
Then, I started looking at fabric and came up with a totally different thought.
I envisioned something done using the center fabric as the focal and main print, with the surrounding fabrics for the details. If I were using these for a tote or large purse, I think I’d fussy cut a tree in a circle and then reverse applique it front and center. I know that there’s numerous “busy” prints in my choices for this week, but I really think they play well together. And I’m not sure why that brown starfish print is showing so dark. It looked closer to the tree trunk when I was playing around with them. Anywhooo, here’s the fabrics I picked this week:
Tapestry in Eternal Brio by Sharon Holland for Art Gallery – center fabric
Starting from 12:00 position and going clockwise:
Snofall in Petal Trail Marine by Rae Ritchie for Dear Stella
Bear Camp in Bear Bois Grass by Jay-Cyn Designs for Birch Organic Fabrics
