2016 Finish-A-Long 3Q Start

What’s this photo mash up about? See that little one right in the dead center? Whaaa? Can’t make it out good enough. Here ya go. This is my post for the:

If you don’t know what I’m talking about there’s numerous hosts for this large event. Basically we declare what projects we’re going to attempt to finish this quarter. The 3Q (short for the 3rd quarter) runs from 7/8 thru 10/6. And lemme tell ya… my list is LONG! lol First however, I’ll introduce you to the hosts:

One of the requirements for this is that it needs to be a tangible project with at least a pile of fabric and a pattern. Well, I’m not going to go that deep into my list… I would be here for days trying to list it all and I doubt anyone would want to read all of that! (or wait for all those images to load lol) Well… Lemme clarify that a bit. There ARE some here that are just a pile of fabrics and a pattern. However, those that do actually have a deadline. What I’ve not listed are piles of fabric with a pattern if there’s no personal deadline. Why not you ask? Well. Short answer – take a look at my list! LOL

I actually had a post mostly written for 2Q, but then life happened. Regardless, I’m in now so let’s get started!

I’m dividing up my projects by type so that’s why there’s multiple lists. Some things could easily fall under multiple project types, however, I’m putting them under the category that would take up the most time for me to do.

  • Quilty things:
    1. Vintage Truck Quilt
This will be a Christmas present for a family member made from a pattern I came up with. I’ve gotten most of the fabric for it cut already. Once I finish cutting, I’m going to chain piece the blocks together, fussy cut the trucks and applique them onto the blocks, sew up the top, quilt and bind it.
    2. Merry Christmas Mini Quilt QAL
This is a pattern I’ve been working on and am hoping to release it in early September for a QAL. Shhhhh! It’s a secret project for a smidge bit longer. If you’re interested, you can find more info under Upcoming QAL.
    3. Vintage Kitchen BOW
A pattern I’m designing for a BOW. The first block will be out July 20th so mark your calendars or go subscribe now so you’ll get email notifications. *hint hint wink wink* Once it’s finished, it will hang in my vintage themed kitchen.
    4. Disney Princess Mystery QAL
This will be a Christmas present for my youngest once it’s finished.
    5. Entry for The National Quilt Museum contest
I have my fabric and currently tweaking my pattern. Shhhh – it’s a secret sewing project.
    6. Illusions quilt
This will be a Christmas present for a family member. I have the pattern, 3 of the 4 fabrics that I’ve already started cutting, and still hunting for the last fabric.
    7. Combo crochet and quilted blanket
This will be a Christmas present for a family member. No pattern needed. 🙂 I have my fabric and yarn all ready to go as soon as I finish the FRAN mystery CAL.
    8. Eagle tabletopper
The pattern I designed and fabric is sitting here all together just waiting for me…
    9. Pixie Summer Home QAL – fall version
Fabrics are ready to go! Eagerly awaiting the QAL. I’m making this for me to use for a couch quilt.
    10. Pixie Summer Home QAL – Christmas/winter version
Fabrics are ready to go! Eagerly awaiting the QAL I’m making this for me to use for a couch quilt.
    11. Crossroads QAL
This will be a Christmas present for a family member. I’m doing relatively good at keeping up with this one as we are also following along with it in my local quilt guild.
    12. Repeat QAL
This will be a Christmas present for a friend. Fabrics are ready so are the paper pieced patterns, they’re just awaiting my time
    13. Summer Solstice QAL
This will be a Christmas present for a family member. Fabric is cut and I’m eagerly awaiting the next step in this QAL
    14. Thread Journey QAL
I think I will be keeping this one for myself as I’m tweaking the pattern a bit to what I like. Currently working on part 1 of this QAL
    15. Mini BOM 2016
Fabrics are ready and awaiting time to do part 1 of this.
    16. Matching set of: Table Runner
Christmas present for a family member. Fabrics and pattern are ready just waiting for me to have time. Shhhhhh! It’s a surprise.
    17. and 4 placemats
Christmas present for a family member. Fabrics and pattern are ready just waiting for me to have time. Shhhhh! It’s a surprise.
    18. Tribute to Perry, GA challenge quilt
There’s no fabric for this pile yet as I’m not sure what fabric I’m going to be using for it, if any with the exception of the batting, backing and binding. I’ve already started it, however, my start involves used, then dried, then emptied out tea bags. Yup, I’m getting all artsy on y’all. 😉
    19. QAL with the 12 Days of Christmas
    20. Bee Inspired QAL
I thing this is so cute! However, I’m changing it up a bit. Mine will have a mixture of black tonal and black/white background with the upcycled pink, purple and green skirts for the applique.
    21. Wallhanging Quilt
Another artsy idea I’ve had based on this image. It’s a secret sewing project because it’s getting entered places. Y’all can see it once I get it all done.
    22. Super Secret Surprise Quit
Why is it super secret? Well, because I hid the fabric so well that, well, ummmm, I wasn’t able to find it in time to photograph it for this post. LOL It’s going to be a present for a family member. I have the panel (chickens – her favorite), other fabrics, and pattern. I just, ummm, can’t find them. ROFL
    23. Spooky Delights QAL table runner
Well, I started this QAL with good intentions. Then I sewed up the borders wrong… After taking the time to rip out around 15 feet of stitching, I kinda lost interest for the moment. I would like to get this done as it’s the only thing I’ve cut into my precious (insert Lord of the Rings jokes here LOL) Ghastlies fabric for.
  • Sewing projects
All those things you see in the image – they are various pieces of clothing, fabric and linens that I plan on upcycling from what they are into dresses 1-14 for my little girl. If you’ll look closely, you’ll see that there is 4 items on each row. The left and right columns are going to be the bodices of the dresses and the inner rows will be the bottoms. For example the very top row: the hot pink ladies t-shirt will be turned into the bodice of a dress and the green and pink floral linens right next to it will be turned into the skirt part of the dress. The pink and white florals on the black background next to that will become the skirt of a dress made with the black cat head print to the right of it.

  • Crochet projects
    1. FRAN mystery CAL afgan
I’ve finished over 1/2 of this so far. I’m hoping to finish it and give it to hubby for his birthday on 7/28. Which ain’t gonna happen… 🙁 But I need to keep on it otherwise if I set it aside, it’ll be collecting dust years from now… Still unfinished. LOL
    2. Disney Princess / Villain CAL
Have yarn and eagerly awaiting this CAL
    3. Mermaid Tail blanket
Christmas present for youngest. Have yarn and pattern and waiting for me to finish (1) FRAN mystery CAL, (2) combo crochet & quilt blanket.
    4. Circle sweater
This will be one of those sweaters that start out as a mandala pattern, extended to be big enough to wear with skipped stitches for the arm holes, then sleeves made and attached. This will be for my little for the cool weather.
    5. Crochet Overcase Sweater
This will be for myself. I’ve not yet started it yet as I’m unsure about the pattern I’ve picked out. I’m debating between this one and two others. We’ll see. I have several other crochet projects to finish first.
    6. Crochet Shrug project
Christmas present for a family member. Have pattern and yarn. Waiting for me to finish (1) FRAN mystery CAL, (2) combo crochet & quilt blanket, & (3) Mermaid Tail blanket. This does not have to get finished by Christmas though as the person who I am planning on this for is also getting #22 in my quilty things list above.
  • Knitting Projects
    1. Learn to knit!!!
    2. Make hubby a pair of socks using this nice soft yarn and this needle. Seriously, look at how fuzzy and soft that yarn is! I just keep squishing it against my cheek. LOL I found a pattern using this weight yarn and it said to use this circular needle so that’s what I bought. I have NO clue how to knit… However, I’d love to learn, if only to knit hubby socks. Why? My hubby is a big man who wears a size 15.5 wide boots. Do you know what it’s like to find ANY socks that fit him in the rural area where we live? I don’t think he’s ever had a pair of nice soft socks. I’d love to make him a pair for Christmas.

    1. Finish my class on Skillshare: Micro Batch Preserves Peach Jalapeno Sauce
    2. Finish my class on Skillshare: Fold Over Clutch
    3. Finish my class on Skillshare: Hand Embroidery Sampler
    4. Finish my class on Skillshare: Basic Quilting How To

Well, that’s everything I think! LOL It’s not everything I’m working on however. There’s numerous BOMs, CALs and other things that there’s no way I’ll be able to finish in 3Q because they’re not even over by then. So I’ll just save them till next time. Or the time after that. Or the one after that… lol

Till next time, have fun!

    1. LOL Lisa yes it is! I’m highly doubtful I’ll complete it. I’m thinking (hoping) I’ll finish half, but I’m hoping this list will help keep me on track.

    1. LOL Thanks! I like your list and hopefully you’ll get bunches done on it this quarter. Good luck!

  1. Oh, my! That’s certainly an ambitious list! Whatever you will get done is that much less to roll over, though. =) Best of luck with lots of finishes. I’m great at making the lists, then I run off and finish something I find that isn’t on the list!

    1. ROFL!!! I do the same thing! My oldest and I both joke that we make master lists of our lists of lists. 😉 Plus, I’ve already started yet another project! A big one at that! The #epichalloweenqal . I just found it but it started 7 weeks ago over on flyingparrotquilts.com
